FURTHER ACTION.

Miss

Thank you for your most interesting letter

We have followed closely

dated 5th December.

the difficulties and achievements of the

Administration us reported to us in your own telegrams and reports and by returned travellers and others. I would like to congratulate you personally on the remarkable progress that has been made particularly in view of the way in which you have been handicapped by reuson of

shortage of start.

X

On this question of starr I may say that

in association with the War Office we have spared no efforts to secure for you additione 1 personnel and I am glow to see from a statement that has recently been drawn up by the H.K.C.A.

at Grosvenor Street that the position is

improving.

On the question of police we are pressing

for the immediate despatch of the 50

inspectors recruited in this country and in addition I am asking that the Chiers or staff should consider retaining in Hong Kong us a temporary moure the Naval ratings who are at present employed on police üuties until the

H.K Police Force is better able to stunu on its

own feet.
